The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) seeks to hire a consultant to implement this study in Kenya and to synthesize results from Kenya and Ethiopia into a comprehensive report outlining distribution channels, major target areas and adoption patterns. In addition, data on livelihood impacts of the selected fodder species will be collected.

OBJECTIVE OF THE ASSIGNMENT

SCOPE OF WORK
The assignment will be structured into 3 sections:
• Identification & targeting: Through discussions on dissemination path-ways with recipient institutions, both on national and local levels, target areas for the most relevant innovative fodder species will be identified. Appropriate secondary data will be collected and documented to enable transparent sampling.

• Adoption: An adoption study on selected fodder species in the target areas will be implemented. The consultant will collaborate with designing tools and sample selection as well as lead enumerator selection, training and supervision during the data collection period. Finally, a report on adoption will outlines initial results.
• Impact: Finally, based on the adoption study results, a sample for impact assessment of the selected fodder species will be established, including a counter-factual. A data collection tool will be jointly developed. The consultant will lead the selection, training and supervision of enumerators for collecting all data relevant for impact assessment.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• MSc in agriculture, agricultural economics or related field
• 5 years of experience in research for development
• Understanding of fodder systems and their development
• Understanding of adoption and impact concepts
• Experience with field data collection including the management of enumerator teams
• Good quantitative analysis and writing skills
Excellent verbal and writing communication skills in English
