Grant Writing Intern

I. Position Information

Position title : Grant writing Intern ( 2 Positions)
Type of contract : Internship - Short Term
Duty station: Nairobi, Kenya
Duration of Assignment : 3 months
Organizational unit: Field Coordination Unit- Transition Initiative for Stabilization (TIS)
Reporting directly to : Project Officer- Transition Initiative for Stabilization (TIS) I
I. Organizational Context and Scope
Under the overall guidance of the TIS Deputy Program Manager in Nairobi, and under the direct supervision of Project Officer, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing support to field coordination Unit (FCU) of the TIS Project in grant proposal development.
Key responsibilities will include gathering background information from the field staff, beneficiary institution, and secondary sources, write grants proposals for all TIS grants under development, submit the draft grants proposals for review within TIS IOM and submit the grant proposal to the Program Manager for approval. The Grant writing Intern shall maintain an updated matrix showing status of grant writing and provide report to the Project Officer on weekly basis.
The Grant writing Intern will also support Field Coordination Unit with reporting on the implementation of grants in accordance with the priorities established by the project’s Senior Management team, and according to the established IOM and USAID procedures.
III. Responsibilities and Accountabilities
  1. In collaboration with Field Coordination Unit collect all grant background information and data required for grant writing and develop sound Grant Proposal (PTG)
  2. Submit draft grant proposals for review and comments to the relevant units with TIS IOM and ensure that all edits and comments are incorporated into the grant proposal;
  3. As part of grant writing process, develop all other forms associated with grant proposal such as Environmental review Form (ERF), Budgets, political Grant proposal (PTG);
  4. Be responsible for submitting the final grant proposal to the TIS IOM program manager for approval and subsequently coordinate with Grants Unit for USAID for concurrence;
  5. Prepare and keep track all grants and grants proposal submitted to USAID for concurrence and maintain record of the same;
  6. Maintain an updated matrix showing status of writing and provide report to the Project officer on weekly basis;
  7. Assist the Project Officer with the general implementation of the programme as requested by the Project Officer and Deputy Program Manager - TIS;
  8. Assist in preparing reports required for the program including but not limited to weekly, monthly, quarterly, and other project updates;
  9. Assist with updating financial, and narrative records in accordance with programme standards and requirements;
  10. Perform such other duties as may be assigned.
IV. Competencies

****Technical:****
a) Excellent English writing and analytical skills; b) Ability to use Access database and Microsoft Excel, Access, Outlook and Word; c) Excellent analytical, planning and organization must be self-motivated to work with minimal supervision; d) Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and manage multiple tasks; e) Strong leadership skills and the ability to resolve complex issues.
V. Education and Experience
  1. University degree in social sciences or related field;
  2. Finance experience would be an added advantage, but not essential;
  3. Sound knowledge of development programme planning and implementation objectives;
  4. Understanding of socio-political dynamics of Somalia is added advantage;
  5. Ability to understand, develop and implement administrative and financial control procedures.
  6. Have at least prior grant writing experience for USAID funded projects specially the Transition Initiative for Stabilization (TIS)
VI. Languages
Required Fluent English and Somali
