REGIONAL CHILD PROTECTION ADVISOR - EAST AFRICA

You will be a part of Save the Children Denmark, a member of one of the worlds’ leading Child Rights-based organizations. The job provides great opportunity to gain from and add value to a highly professional environment. You will be located in Nairobi, Kenya and will be traveling in and outside the region. The level of ambition is high, and you will be working with dedicated international colleagues, who all strive to make a difference for vulnerable children around the world.
CAPACITY BUILDING, PROGRAMME SUPPORT AND FUNDRAISING
You will play a central role in capacity building and providing other forms of programme support in Child Protection and particular Psycho-Social Support to Country Offices and partners in the region. Main responsibilities include:
- Offering technical assistance – including training – in order to ensure that programmes have sufficient resources and expertise at hand to build capacity, to monitor, to ensure quality and to develop further in their ability to meet the psycho-social needs of children and adolescents.
- Triggering advocacy efforts related to psycho-social support programming and drive learning and innovations in liaison with other key stakeholders.
- Contributing to quality-assurance of psycho-social support products and policy development as part of the global Child Protection team of Save the Children Denmark.
- Identifying funding possibilities.
- Supporting the Regional Office (20% of working time) in child protection and liaising closely with the Regional Director for Program Development and Quality Assurance (PDQ) on this.
- Joining the Save the Children International Global Roster and being available for Child Protection in Emergency deployments in the region (up to 25% of working time).
EXPERIENCED AND SELF-DRIVEN TEAMPLAYER
You are self-motivated and independent, while at the same time being a strong team player who ensures stakeholder involvement. You are also an experienced facilitator, and it is essential that you have:
- At least 5 years of experience with protection and significant experience with psycho-social support, especially in emergency settings.
- A good knowledge and understanding of humanitarian principles and established international standards on mental health and psycho-social support for children in humanitarian settings e.g. humanitarian principles and humanitarian charter,
- A track-record in sustainable capacity building as well as assessment, monitoring and evaluation, preferably in psycho-social support interventions.
- A progressive experience in the design of and fundraising for interventions for children in humanitarian settings, preferably in psycho-social support. Working knowledge in the design of child friendly spaces and temporary learning spaces is a plus.
- An advanced university degree (or demonstrated equivalent capacity) in an appropriate field such as psychology, social work, education, social geography or related field.
- Working experience from the East African region.
TERMS & RECRUITMENT PROCES
Employment and salary follow Save the Children Denmark’s present terms and conditions. Employment for one year with possibility of extension.
