Program Associate - Nairobi, Kenya

Position Summary
The Program Associate will manage the administration of the day-to-day operations of the field office, undertake logistics for events in the region, and will assist with the administration of sub-grants to local and regional civil society organizations. This position will be based in Nairobi, Kenya and will report to the Project Director.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in political science, international relations, human rights, or related field
  • Minimum six months in office management and/or program assistance
  • Ability to communicate effectively in Arabic, both orally and in writing
  • Knowledge of democracy and human rights issues in East Africa & the Horn
  • Interpersonal skills to interact successfully with and motivate a diverse group of individuals
  • Willingness to lead logistical, administrative, and financial functions
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to apply superb attention to detail and consistently produce timely and error free work
  • Ability to accept and complete administrative tasks with a positive and proactive attitude
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs
  • Knowledge of international donor funding sources, specifically USAID and US Department of State, a plus
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive material
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Undertake logistical arrangements for regional events and travel, including purchasing airline tickets, ground transportation, accommodation, procuring visas, and briefing staff on relevant issues
  • Assist in financial management, including the preparation of draft budgets
  • Create, maintain, and update team databases for contacts, vendors, and others as assigned
  • Assist in producing promotional material on the programs
  • Organize program events and provide administrative support as necessary
  • Assist in communication and coordination with regional sub-grantees and partners
  • Contribute to the preparation of reports, proposals, grants, press releases, and budgets as required
  • Potential travel within the region
  • Perform other duties as assigned
