1. Project Officer – Agricultural Extension

Reporting to the National Project Manager; the Project Officer – Agricultural Extension shall be responsible for coordinating effective implementation of the Climate Change in Education project to significantly improve enrolment, attendance and retention through climate change mitigation and adaptation interventions (school gardening, environmental clubs, commercial irrigation) in primary schools within Tana River County in line with ActionAid International Kenya(AAIK) and donor requirements.
Project Officer Job Key responsibilities for this position include;
Supporting research and analysis of climate change issues
Facilitating development and implementation of strategies, plans and procedures that address identified climate change issues within the CCE project
Supporting project activity design and ensure their successful implementation to achieve overall project objectives in line with the project requirements
Providing technical support in development of fundraising proposals on areas of Agricultural extension
Supporting Climate Change initiatives at County level and in implementation of set initiatives within Tana River County and partner organization
Undertaking capacity building for AAIK staff and partners on issues of rain water harvesting, school gardening, content of environmental clubs and commercial irrigation
Supporting the National Project Manager to effectively coordinate project staff, partner led activities and project oversight teams to ensure structures work effectively
Ensuring high quality monitoring and evaluation of the project and generation of quality periodic reports and stories of change and broadly sharing the lessons in line with ActionAid’s guidelines, providing support as appropriate to the project area
Working with the project team and quality management team to ensure high quality periodic design/ redesign of interventions based on lessons learnt;
Ensuring accurate project plans and budgets are prepared in suitable formats, up to date, and according to AAIK and donor requirements;
Provide an analysis of the progress and financial reports to the National Project Manager and donors and respond to priorities that emerge from the project in a timely manner;
Compile and manage risks incidental to the project
Document lessons learnt and monitor Agricultural extension related issues within the project and share at community and county levels
Participating in Climate Change adaptation forums at community, school and county levels
Perform any other lawful duties that you may be assigned from time to time.

Hold a Bachelors’ degree in Agricultural extension, Agricultural Engineering, Agricultural Economics or related field from a recognized University
Have at least three (3) years’ working experience in Agricultural extension project/programme
Have a good understanding of climate change related issues in Tana River County
2. Project Officer- Engineering

Reporting to the Programme Officer – Engineering; the Project Officer – Engineering shall be responsible for ensuring sound planning and implementation of AAIK’s infrastructural Climate Change in Education (CCE) project initiatives. The job holder shall be based in Tana River County– Hola & Garsen.
Engineering Job Key responsibilities for this position include;
Maintaining relationship between AAIK and County Public works, education departments and partner organizations
Carrying out mobilization of all stakeholders involved in the implementation of the CCE infrastructural component
Implementation of the CCE infrastructural component of the project – Construction of classrooms, dormitories, water tanks and toilets to required standards and in conformity with project documents
Supervising external contractors and partner staff
Carrying out quality assurance on all project infrastructures
Carrying out and maintain records of measurements of all constructed works and recommend progress payments requested by contractors
Ensuring proper site handover meetings to contractors
Identifying and clarify the individual roles of each of the stakeholders for each project at each project site
Conducting site inspection meetings to review project progress and confirm adherence to project documents with all stakeholders involved
Bringing to the attention of the AAIK engineer of any discrepancies in the project documents (Drawings, Bills of quantities, Specifications and Contract agreements)
Ensuring proper site handover meetings of successfully completed projects
Maintaining documentation of all site meetings and stages
Ensuring timely, on-specification and on-budget completion of projects
Submiting monthly, quarterly and annual project reports
Any other duties assigned
Appointment to the position will be made from persons who have:
Hold a minimum of a Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized University.
Have at least 5 years’ relevant working experience
Have increased levels of quality assurance, transparency and accountability
