Auxiliary Nurse - Maternity; Dadaab

Background:
Al-Khair Foundation is a UK registered charity working to deliver humanitarian and development projects worldwide. Founded in 2003, Al-Khair provides emergency aid, medical care, education and livelihood support to vulnerable communities in the UK, Africa, Asia and the Middle East, and is committed to supporting these groups to become sustainable active citizens in their society. Al-Khair is currently implementing a Maternal Health project in Kambioos, Dadaab Refugee Camp and is therefore interested in recruiting an Auxiliary Nurse - Maternity.
Job Summary:
Ensure that all patients get quality health care according to their need.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Key Responsibilities
· Display team work spirit.
· Maintain order and cleanliness of the environment at the work place.
· Take and record temperature, pulse, respiration and blood pressure of patients as required.
· Give medication appropriately at the time prescribed and record in the treatment sheet.
· Report any changes in the patient’s condition to the nurse in charge at a particular shift for immediate action; observe post natal mothers for bleeding.
· Observe aseptic techniques at all times when performing nursing procedures.
· Provide total nursing care as per the patients need.
· Promote health by giving health education sessions generally and on specifics according to the maternity department e.g. the danger signs, family planning, emergency caesarian sections etc.
· Write ward report and hand over patients at the end of each shift to the colleagues reporting for duty.
· Maintain all ward equipment appropriately (sanitary) for use and handover to the next shift.
· Ensure that all waste is disposed according to the waste management policies.
· Ensure visiting hours are respected by notifying the visitors in time.
· Conduct duties/shifts as allocated by the nurse in charge/supervisor.
· Ensure ultimate ward cleanliness’ by dump dusting of the ward, nursery, delivery rooms and assist in bed making
· Assist in instrument packing and sending/collecting in time for sterilization and use.
· Ensure all equipment is handled with care.
· Ensure adequate handing over is done to the colleagues taking over the next shift including equipment, pending sample collection etc.
· Ensure punctuality and log in as per the policy.
· Ensure the right attire is worn at work (the uniform).
· Conduct any other duties as assigned by the ward in charge or ward supervisor.
Required qualification:
· Must have Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education.
· Must have certificate of Nursing Aid Related qualifications
· A skill training in reproductive health and related field is of advantage
· Must be a registered refugee under UNHCR mandate.
