Gender Analyst - Internship

The World Food Programme (WFP) is the world’s largest humanitarian agency, fighting hunger worldwide. The Regional Bureau based in Nairobi, Kenya provides strategic guidance, policy/technical support and direction to WFP operations and activities in nine countries: Burundi, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, South Sudan and Uganda.
Description
The selected candidate will support the regional programme unit to develop a regional gender mainstreaming strategy by undertaking age and gender analysis. Key duties may include but are not limited to the following:
· Conduct quality statistical analysis of country specific data collected during recent food security assessments and post-distribution monitoring across the region;
· Carry out a literature review of existing age and gender analysis and summarize findings that are relevant for food security and nutrition;
· Liaise with other regional actors working on gender and summarize their strategies and priorities in achieving gender equality within the region;
· Conduct an age and gender analysis for each country office within the region, consisting of primary and secondary data;
· Document good practices and lessons learned with regards to gender mainstreaming and support the development of a gender and protection knowledge database;
· Support the development of donor relation briefs and information material to support fundraising;
· Plan and organize a regional gender workshop and write a workshop report;
· Perform any other related duties as required.
Essential Requirements
· Currently enrolled or recently graduated with a Master’s Degree in Gender/Women’s Studies, Sociology, Political Science, International Development Studies, Human Rights Law, Development Economics, Food Security, Statistic or Performance Management or other relevant field;
· Academic or professional training in social research methods;
· Excellent knowledge of and experience with statistics and statistical software (SPSS);
· Excellent analytical and research skills and ability to clearly synthesize and present findings, draw practical conclusions and prepare written reports in a timely manner;
· Excellent knowledge of working with datasets and Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
· Strong interpersonal skills and cultivated relationships with office colleagues from diverse cultural backgrounds, local NGOs, government authorities, and other implementation partners;
· Fluency in both oral and written English is essential; working knowledge of French would be a strong added advantage.
Terms and Conditions
· Duration of the Internship is four months from August through November 2015;
· Interns receive a monthly stipend from WFP equivalent to 10% of the UN Daily Substance Allowance at the duty station. In Nairobi, Kenya, the monthly stipend is between US$ 625 to US$685 per month.
