JOB SUMMARY
The IT Systems Administrator’s role is to design, install, administer, and optimize International Medical Corps UK servers/workstations and related components to achieve high performance of the various business applications. This includes ensuring the availability of client/server applications, configuring all new implementations, and developing processes and procedures for ongoing management of the server environment. Where applicable, the Server Administrator will assist in overseeing the physical security, integrity, and safety of corporate infrastructure. The position will technically report to the Split Systems Administrator and administratively to the Executive Assistant to the Executive Director based in London.
KEY RESULTS AREAS (ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES)
· Act as project lead in the design and review of new server systems, applications, and hardware; conduct capacity planning as needed.
· Lead, coordinate and participate in key process improvements as they relate to the client/server environment.
· Coordinate and collaborate with networking, business application, and database administration functions to ensure availability, reliability, and scalability of servers to meet business demands.
· Check service desk database for entries on server and server resource issues; prioritize and respond to help desk tickets as appropriate.
· Serve as a primary point of contact for escalating server and application issues; provide timely response to customer escalations.
· Perform file system configuration and management; define and perform server backups and recovery procedures.
· Plan and implement server and workstation upgrades, maintenance fixes, and vendor-supplied patches.
· Assist in workstation deployments by using standard images and tools.
· Provide web administration support by overseeing and maintaining Web server functions, such as assuring logging and metrics data are stable.
· Monitor and test system performance and provide performance statistics and reports.
· Create shell scripts as required.
· Manage enterprise directory services and supporting server infrastructure.
· Recommend and execute modifications to server environment in order to improve efficiency, reliability, and performance.
· Develop and maintain training materials and server documentation.
· Maintain working proficiency of all hardware and software to enable maximum utilization of IT resources.
· Ensure all network, server, workstations and computer components are maintained to industry best practices and provide recommendations.
· Responsible for training and supporting end-users with computers, printers, mobile devices, and various others.
· May be required to work overtime, weekends, and on-call.
· Follows IT Department policies and procedures at all times.
· Perform other tasks as assigned.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
· Relevant hands-on experience.
· a combination of the following certifications and/or equivalent hands-on knowledge: CompTIA A+/Network+; MSCE
· Good conceptual understanding of how Information Systems work.
· Knowledge of installing, troubleshooting, repairing, and supporting network, server, computer, phone system, and printer hardware.
· Project management skills a definite asset.
· Patch management best practices.
· Intermediate server and LAN administration experience.
· Intermediate to advance knowledge of Windows 2003/2008/2012 networking infrastructure.
· Experience with Active Directory and Group Policy.
· Strong troubleshooting and technical research abilities a must.
· Must have worked in a small to medium size business environment providing 1st and 2nd tier level support (minimum 50 node network).
· Excellent interpersonal/communication/written/documentation skills.
· Must have the ability to communicate technical information to non-technical users.
· Must demonstrate the ability to work in a high pressure, fast paced environment.
· Must be able to effectively multi-task with complete follow through.
· Must be energetic, self-motivated, and flexible.
· Any programming languages a big plus.
