Food Assistance Specialist, USAID/OFDA & FFP Somalia Monitoring Project, Nairobi, Kenya

Background:
Social Impact (SI) is a Washington, DC-area international development management consulting firm. We provide a full range of innovative program evaluation, management consulting, technical assistance, and training services to strengthen international development programs, organizations and policies. Our global services are in the areas of democracy and governance, health and education, agriculture, the environment, and economic growth.
Objective:
The purpose of this 1-year contract is to establish a third-party monitoring system to verify and provide independent confirmation of programs in Somalia funded by USAID’s Office of U.S. Foreign Disaster Assistance (OFDA) and Office of Food for Peace (FFP) within the Bureau for Democracy, Conflict and Humanitarian Assistance (DCHA) at USAID. The monitoring system will give OFDA and FFP staff accurate and verifiable information about funded programs. The project is expected to begin fall 2014.
Position Description:
Social Impact is seeking a full-time Food Assistance Specialist to provide technical assistance and inputs to the Chief of Party and the Field Monitors. The Food Assistance Specialist will be based in Nairobi, Kenya.
Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical input into the design of the monitoring plan, the data collection methods, and the questionnaires related to data collected about food assistance activities;
  • Assist in the analysis of the data collected for food assistance activities, and;
  • Other technical duties as necessary.
Qualifications:
  • Must hold an advanced degree in public health, agriculture, nutrition, food and agricultural economics, international development, or a related field;
  • Must have at least six years of experience in the humanitarian, transition, or development sector working within the food security field;
  • At least two years of this experience must be with humanitarian programs in conflict zones;
  • Must have excellent knowledge of food security, with strong preference given to international food assistance (to include in-kind food, cash transfer or food voucher programs), excellent oral and written communication skills, and analytic skills, and;
  • Previous experience in Somalia is highly desirable.
