****Conduct a capacity strengthening workshop for partners to strengthen strategies & knowledge around stigma****
Stigma plays a critical role in the social, medical, and legal marginalization of abortion care. It shames and silences women seeking abortions and providers seeking to offer safe care and may negatively affect women’s emotional and mental health after an abortion. Stigma may affect a woman’s willingness to disclose her abortion intentions and/or experiences to partners, parents, friends, or health-care providers, endangering her health and future fertility. Providers may be unwilling to provide services because of pressure from colleagues and negative attitudes in the communities which they serve. In certain settings stigma may determine whether a woman seeks a safe versus unsafe abortion or life-saving medical care when suffering post abortion complications. Given the prevalence of abortion worldwide and the potential negative impact that stigma may have on women’s lives, it is imperative that Ipas improve understanding of abortion stigma.
