Action Africa Help International (AAH-I) is an African-led, regional organisation, working in East and Southern Africa to improve the lives of livelihood-challenged communities. AAH-I has country programmes in Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, Uganda, and Zambia. It brings over 20 years’ experience working with communities in conflict and post-conflict situations, including refugees, internally displaced people and host communities. More recently, it has expanded its activities to work with other marginalised communities, including pastoralist communities and communities in urban slums.
AAH-I works with communities, local governments and other development partners in:
• Basic services (health, education, water, hygiene and sanitation)
• Food and income security
• Environmental management and responsiveness to climate change in all these settings
• Governance, civil society strengthening and peace building
• Humanitarian relief and recovery
• Research to provide the evidence base for, and to improve delivery of, the above.
JOB DESCRIPTION: PARTNERSHIPS OFFICER
The Partnerships Officer will play a key role in securing the resources AAH-I needs to deliver its vision, mission and Strategic Plan. She/he will have a particular focus on strengthening the financial aspects of grant and tender applications and increasing access to unrestricted funding.
The Partnerships Officer will report to the Partnerships Manager and will be responsible for day to day management of the Partnerships Assistant. The post is a national post and will be for 40 hours per week. The suitable candidate will be available to travel as required. Her/his performance will be reviewed annually as part of AAHI’s performance appraisal process.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.Partnership Development
- Support mapping of development partners, including private, public and NGO partners
- Support research into identified partners (donor and implementing partners)
· Support/attend visits to donor agencies, other clients and collaborating institutions
- Support management of key organisational partnerships.
2.Resource Mobilisation
· Identify new opportunities and maintain an up-to-date Pursuit List
· Work with the Partnerships Manager, Finance team and Directors to develop costings for AAH-I grants and tenders, e.g. staff fee rate range, generic staff salaries per country programme etc.
· Work with the Partnerships Manager, and Finance Director to develop organisational guidelines for financial/commercial proposals in line with priority donors requirements.
· Ensure that concept notes, proposals and equivalent are submitted on time and to donor/client guidelines
· Liaise with the Partnerships Manager to contract suitable capacity for preparing concept notes and technical proposals
· Ensure appropriate consultants are identified and recruited
· Coordinate the production schedule for complex technical and financial proposals
· Provide day to day management of the Partnership Assistant
· Help to research and test new approaches to fundraising within AAH-I
3. Other
· Deputise for the Partnerships Manager as requested
· Represent AAH-I at relevant meetings and events
· Any other business as indicated by the Operations Manager.
Essential Qualifications, Skills and Experience
· A minimum of 3 years’ experience in business development/resource mobilisation and/or programme management or management of client accounts
· Excellent Microsoft Excel skills
· Strong financial management/budgeting skills
· Excellent written and spoken English
· Demonstrable ability to meet deadlines
· Demonstrable experience of working with teams to set, agree and deliver against work plans and budget
· Ability to present complex financial and written information clearly and succinctly
· Excellent desk research (e.g. review of internet and publication based information) and presentation skills
· Excellent interpersonal skills
· Demonstrated good judgment and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and set priorities.
· A “finisher” - demonstrated ability to work independently and to deliver a work to agreed timeline and quality standards.
Desirable
· Bachelor degree preferably in international/community development or one of AAH-I’s thematic areas
· Experience in proposal and/or tender development
· Experience other types of fundraising (i.e. not proposal based)
· Experience related to knowledge management and learning and/or marketing and communications.
· Demonstrated experience as part of a team on a winning proposal.
