CARE Somalia is an International NGO working in Somalia. CARE and its partners work with vulnerable communities to address the underlying causes of poverty and promote peace and development, through its strategic goal to reduce poverty by empowering women, enhancing access to resources and services, and improving governance. CARE Somalia program is seeking applications from qualified candidates for the position of Senior Grants Analyst based in Nairobi with some travel to Somalia.
JOB SUMMARY
The Senior Grants Analyst position exists to ensure that controls applicable to each grant are observed including the following donor regulations, mapping donor budget line item to CARE Chart of Account, ensuring expenses are within budget line item and budget flexibility, providing support to PMs and SCs, informing all concerned about budget over/under expenditures and recommending actions such as line item re-alignments and other budget revisions. This includes all RMU managed grants and contracts and related financial analysis and reporting. The position is also responsible for data analysis and all report preparation activities in co-ordination with the Grants & Contracts Coordinator. In addition, s/he will be responsible of sub-grants reporting in coordination with the Sub-Grants Officer.
KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY
Accounts Payable/Receivables:-The incumbent will be required to ensure accountability and efficiency in management of Donor Payables & Receivables; S/he will be responsible of following up on cash requests from Donors and disbursements of Sub-Grants once liquidations of respective Sub-Grants are adequately completed.
Financial Accountability:The incumbent will be required to ensure that controls applicable to each grant are observed including following donor regulations, mapping donor budget line item to CARE Chart of Account, ensuring expenses are within budget line item and budget flexibility, providing support to PMs and SCs, informing all concerned about budget over/under expenditures and recommending actions such as line item re-alignments and other budget revisions.
Sub Grant Management:The position is also responsible for data analysis and all report preparation activities in co-ordination with the Grants & Contracts Coordinator. In addition, s/he will be responsible for sub grant management including compliance of partners’ grant agreements, sub-recipients’ financial reporting and budgeting monitoring.
****QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE****:
- Bachelors’ degree in Business administration, Commerce, Finance/accounting option with CPA IV or its equivalent to demonstrate the required skills for this position.
- Solid knowledge of key donor regulations, and compliance requirements (USG, EU, and ECHO).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel and word and good skills at using financial software applications.
- Analytical thinking and supervisory skills
- 5 years’ experience in grants reporting and budgeting with 2 years’ experience in Audit
- Ability to communicate effectively at different levels and across cultures; Proficiency in English Language.
