CARANA seeks a Senior Trade Promotion Expert for an anticipated, multi-year USAID funded trade expansion project in East Africa. The East Africa Trade and Investment Center (TIC) will be based out of Kenya, the project will facilitate and reduce barriers to the trade of staple foods, cash crops, horticulture, live stock and other export products within East Africa and between the region and international markets.
CARANA seeks a Senior Trade Promotion Expert for an anticipated, multi-year USAID funded trade expansion project in East Africa. The East Africa Trade and Investment Center (TIC) will be based out of Kenya, the project will facilitate and reduce barriers to the trade of staple foods, cash crops, horticulture, live stock and other export products within East Africa and between the region and international markets.
Duties:
• Increase exports of African firms to U.S. markets under AGOA by working with governments and key stakeholders, develop or update national AGOA export strategies and support export promotion agencies;
• Develop and strengthen national export promotion agencies to develop new marketing and matchmaking strategies and serve as a center of information and assistance for local firms on accessing U.S. markets through AGOA and other international markets.
• Responsible for promoting trade between African and U.S. firms by assisting key competitive sectors and representative trade associations.
• Develop relationships between various business groups and associations in Africa or those interested in Africa, to link U.S. and international importers and distributors in sourcing goods and services from Africa.
• Provide grants or engage in subcontracting under the Partnership Fund to support increased value chain competitiveness and value addition and strengthen regional trade associations.
• Collaborate with the Trade Hubs in Southern and West Africa to support pan-African sectors and trade associations, promote African businesses, and build linkages.

Minimum qualifications:
• Master’s degree or equivalent in international trade, economics, public policy, business administration, or related area or equivalent preferred;
• Minimum fifteen years of relevant experience, preferably in East Africa;
• Minimum five years of experience managing and coordinating promotion activities preferred;
• Experience supporting developing country firms export, particularly under preferential trade agreements such asAGOA preferred;
• Experience serving in an advisory capacity to high-level government officials on achieving global competitiveness preferred;
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with institutional and private sector partners and stakeholders in a multi-country setting;
• Excellent writing and communication skills;
• Ability to use the latest ICT technology and computer software programs; and
• Excellent English.
