The World Agroforestry Centre (also known as the International Centre for Research in Agroforestry or ICRAF) is an independent research institution which generates science-based knowledge about the complex role trees play in agricultural landscapes and rural livelihoods. As part of the Centre’s work to bring tree-based solutions to bear on poverty and environmental problems, researchers – working in close collaboration with partners – are developing new technologies, tools and policy recommendations for increased food security and ecosystem health.
The Centre’s headquarters are located in Nairobi, Kenya, and research is conducted in more than 30 countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America. We are supported by the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) and receive funding from over 50 different donors.

About the position
The Director of Human Resources will report to the Director General. The main responsibilities are:
• To develop and manage a global strategy for human resources acquisition and development, develop/review and implement policies that balance the staff aspirations and the strategic and development needs of the Institute.
• To facilitate the people aspects of change management, with Senior Leadership Team nurture a performance, team-based, service excellence and inclusive organizational culture.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
• Develop organization strategies by identifying and researching human resources issues; lead organization strategic thinking and direction with information, analysis, and recommendations to establish human resources objectives in line with organizational objectives.
• Promote human resource values by planning and managing human resources programs both at HQ and regions.
• Accomplishes special project results by identifying and clarifying issues and priorities; communicating and coordinating requirements; expediting fulfilment; evaluating milestone accomplishments; evaluating optional courses of action; changing assumptions and direction.
• Provide human resources advice, counsel, and recommendations to the Board, Senior Leadership Team and staff.
• Guide Senior Leadership Team and employee actions by researching, developing, writing, and updating policies, procedures, methods, and guidelines; communicating and enforcing organization values.
• Evaluate effectiveness and efficiencies on HR issues through compiling and analysing data from various reports to ensure organizational objectives are met.
• Develop, implement and review Gender, Diversity and Inclusion policy and goals for the Centre.
• Design and implement the Centres performance dash board ensuring effective monitoring of organizational performance using the dashboard approach and continuous improvement of ICRAF’s approach to integrated performance management
• Work with HR professionals in other CGIAR centres and Consortium Office to develop a strong Community of Practice and improved HR policies, processes and practices.
Requirements
• An advanced degree in relevant field (industrial Psychology, human resources, organizational development) or advanced career experience.
• Requires at least 10 years progressive human resources generalist experience with more than five years at senior management level in a high-volume environment. Experience must include hands-on responsibility for the full scope of human resources activities, both operations and analysis.
• Communication, Human Resources development, Management, Developing Standards, Foster Teamwork, Promoting Process Improvement, Building Relationships, Organizational Astuteness, People Skills, effective interface with diverse groups; effective supervisory skills.
• A sound judgment, discretion, flexibility and integrity. A strong sense of self and the ability to make decisions in a variety of situations.
Terms of offer
