Job purpose and key deliverables |
Provide a continuous, co-ordinated and comprehensive security service, ensuring threats to company personnel, assets and marketing activities in Kenya and East African Markets (EAM) are properly identified, evaluated and countered in a timely and cost effective manner, with risk indicators highlighted to management.
Mitigate security risks in coordination with the Area Security Manager and targeted stakeholders. Provide functional support to “at risk” elements within Marketing. Implement a security programme that is effective and cost efficient, providing a safe and secure environment with appropriate business continuity for marketing. Provide above market support to Country Security Managers to secure marketing activity in DR Congo and Uganda.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
1. Assess, manage and where necessary address threat:
a) The current and future security situations in Kenya and the East African Markets (EAM).
b) General threats and security risks to marketing personnel (including families and visitors), assets, information and activities and of any changes in the threat as soon as this occurs.
c) Cost effective, timely and appropriate measures to mitigate security risks.
2. Implement security policy, common platforms, ‘Best Practice’, and Guidance Notes received from BAT headquarters and other sources.
3. Oversee and coordinate security investigations, reviews and audits post Marketing-related incidents, to determine what happened, identify weaknesses, draw appropriate, supportable conclusions and make recommendations to prevent recurrence.
4. Implement the Travel Security Programme:
a) Provide briefings to travellers and ensure Nairobi Security Control room has appropriate ‘visibility’.
b) Ensure appropriate briefings are given and that security plans and resources are in place for travellers to high risk markets, whether in the East and Central Africa Area or globally.
5. Ensure that threat assessment and formal security risk assessment is undertaken before the deployment of Marketing personnel into new areas, and on a routine review basis thereafter.
6. Formulate and deliver security measures aligned to Marketing plans (e.g. Route to Market) and projects.
7. Ensure the security programme favours proactive risk mitigation by using threat and risk assessment methodology, suitable technology, and security service providers for escort and response, where appropriate.
8. Source security service providers to support the Marketing security plan and manage these relationships, to ensure they and remain fit for purpose and cost efficient in their activities.
9. Monitor technology developments in the vehicle and personnel tracking and monitoring fields, to ensure that Marketing security is properly enabled.
10. Facilitate and coordinate business continuity and crisis management activities pertaining to the Marketing footprint and the respective secondary supply chains.
a) Facilitate and coordinate Business Continuity planning meetings to support Marketing’s Functional Continuity Managers.
b) Manage the testing and evaluation program for Business Continuity and contingency plans related to Marketing.
c) Review and update the relevant contingency plans owned by Security as a Function.
d) Act as Crisis Management Coordinator where required.
e) Maintain readiness of the Incident Control Centre, battle boxes and crisis communications equipment.
11. Provide accurate and timely data to the audit reporting process relating to security and risk management issues within the marketing area.
12. Develop, update and deliver an appropriate security education, awareness & training (SEAT) programme to Marketing staff. As part of the SEAT programme, implement defensive driver, hostile environment and emergency first aid training for staff deployed in high risk markets.

Essential requirements |
Knowledge, skills, experience and qualifications
1. Relevant graduate qualification in political science, risk, security management or related areas.
2. Ideally 8 to 10 years working experience in all aspects of business security as well as the development and deployment of security plans, standards and procedures
3. Strong experience in the implementation of security programmes in challenging environments
4. Sound knowledge of physical and electronic security; specifically building security, perimeter protection, barriers, locks, access control, use of Close Circuit Television (CCTV), Automated Access Control (AAC) and Intruder Detection Systems (IDS) and the integration of security forces and procedures for layered protection
5. Strong analytical skills in conducting threat, risk and vulnerability assessment and business impact analysis.
6. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills allowing effective relationships.
7. Ability to produce timely, accurate, detailed and concise written and verbal reports and reviews.
8. Experience of managing 3rd parties and service providers.
9. Experience in project and programme management.
10. A mature individual and of impeccable integrity.
