Agronomist Officer

Position Description
Title:Agronomist Officer
Location: LUUQ Office(All area under Dollow office)
Start of Contract & Duration: (15th July 2014 - 6 months) Renewable.
Background
DRC Dollow programme operates within a regional framework (Horn of Africa and Yemen) that incorporates three major components namely the integrated livelihoods component, emergency humanitarian interventions and advocacy and protection components. All DRC projects require monitoring and evaluation plans to be developed and implemented. In addition the M&E team also completes evaluations and impact assessments.
Purpose
The candidates will be responsible for the implementation of the agro pastoral activities under the SomReP projects. He will take lead in all agro related activities and work closely with other project staff.
Key Responsibilities
o Responsible for designing, planning and implementation of the agro activities in the SomReP Project.
o Provide technical assistance in the implementation of the DRC SomReP agro activities.
o Monitor and evaluate DRC SomReP project activities through regular field visits.
o Prepare and submit operational plans and program narrative reports on a timely basis.
o Develop and conduct training manuals on agriculture and livelihoods.
o Prepare a monthly, progress reports, quarterly, annual reports, and other reporting requirements.
o Training extension workers and farmers on modern agricultural practices
o Ensure that the knowledge, experience and lessons learned on the projects implementations are documented, validated and disseminated to the donors and communities through communication, workshops and meetings.
o Initiate and conduct field assessments
o Collate information from assessments and other sources for planning purposes.
o Preparation of field concept activities to initiate proposals.
o Conduct training and other capacity development activities for community mobilizers.
o Conduct regular field community meetings to maintain progress.
o Perform any other tasks assigned to him/her by supervisor
Reporting Arrangements
This position will report to Dollow Area Manager
Commitments: DRC has a Humanitarian Accountability Framework, outlining its global accountability committments. All staff are required to contribute to the achievement of this framework (http://www.drc.dk/HAF.4265.0.html)
Personal Specifications
Essential:
  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture, crop production, agricultural economics, agricultural business or other relevant discipline.
  2. Training experience in agricultural related disciplines.
  3. Minimum of 2 years’ experience in the implementation of agricultural development programs and/or food security and livelihood programs.
  4. Knowledge of Somalia context is a must.
  5. A proven track record in proposal development and report writing
  6. Expertise in Agriculture, food security and livelihoods sector.
  7. Excellent written and oral communications
  8. Experience in use of Microsoft access database, Excel sheets as well as other analyses software.
  9. Sound knowledge and commitment to participatory approaches to working with communities.
  10. Knowledge of Somali Language.
  11. Preferable:
  12. Experience negotiation access or for humanitarian or other agencies
  13. At least 3 years’ experience working in gedo region
