Main Purpose:
To ensure that medical and nutritional care is properly delivered to the patients and to follow daily the progress of the patients in the health facility within your scope of management.
Accountabilities
Clinical Tasks:
- Ensure that the right diagnoses for each patient are recorded on the patient’s card/chart.
- Perform daily ward rounds for patients under your care.
- Ensure that all patients receive the prescribed medication in the correct dose and at the right time.
- Educate your patients on treatment adherence
- Discuss with the expat MD or nurse all difficult cases that are beyond your management scope for assistance or any necessary supports.
- Participate in the on call duty in rotation as organized by the medical responsible.
- Facilitate laboratory request for the patients as and when necessary and follow up the results with the laboratory staff.
- Support in the monitoring, collating, analysis and reporting of medical/drugs consumptions if requested by your line manager.
- Participate in mortality review of all mortalities occurring in the department you’re assigned.
- Support and monitor the clinical and nutritional conditions of the children in the therapeutic feeding program.
- To monitor the health status of the patients (including weight and height s according to protocol)
- To inform the medical supervisor immediately of problems such as vomiting, diarrhea, fever deterioration of the status of the patient.
- To detect dehydration of the patients
- To follow the re-hydration state of the patients
- To follow strictly the MSF guidelines and procedures
- To take vital signs (temp, resp rate, pulse rate...) every day
- To follow the medical prescriptions per guidelines or as prescribed by the MD/expat in charge
- To deliver the right drugs at the right time, right dose, right patient
- To provide dressing changes following proper hygiene guidelines
- To use universal precautions at all times.
- To prescribe and adapt the quantity of milk according to the phase and weight of the patient
- To monitor how the patients are eating,
- To encourage and advise the mothers having difficulties to feed their children
- To check daily for edema
- To follow the progress of the nutritional status of the patients.
- To draw the weight curve of each patient and calculate the %
Personnel management
- To train and monitor all the care delivered by the nutrition assistants.
- To organize the daily work and dispatch the activities among the nutrition assistants in collaboration with the supervisor
- To make an oral reports (for all patients), write relevant information on the individual cards, for the next team, at the end of the shift.
Supervisory and training role
- Provide supportive supervision of the other less skilled medical staff working with you and ensure that MSF protocols are being followed in every procedure.
- Provide ongoing training/coaching to the medical staff working in the MSF health facility.
Medical Reporting
- Participate in the collection, collation and analysis of weekly and monthly medical data and reporting with the support of the expat responsible.
Other responsibilities:
- Take active part in health needs assessment in the target population if required.
- To perform any other tasks requested by your Expat supervisor
- To participate to the health education of the mothers.
- To stimulate emotional and physical activities of the patients.

Requirements (Your CV should convey the following essentials):
- Very good level of written and spoken English.
- Ability to work with translators
- At least 2 years work experience in the medical field.
- Experience in nutrition is an must
- Registered Nurse certificate/diploma from an institution recognized by the MoH.
- Flexible attitude and able to take initiative, make good judgment and use common sense when required.
- Understanding and commitment to the aims and values of MSF.
