Context/Scope
EABL operates within 3 countries in a multi cultural, multi national, multi currency environment. EABL comprises four business units: KBL, EAML, CGI and UBL. Central Glass Industries (CGI) provides quality container glass supplies to EABL and other companies in Africa.
The Production department ensures that the company works towards the attainment of World Class Manufacturing Standards in terms of quality, cost and delivery through a culture of continuous improvement by providing plant personnel with right skills and competencies. The department produces glass containers in three colours – flint, amber and green – thus need to plan for production to accommodate various customers.

Central Glass Industries is a major glass container manufacturer in East and Central Africa and is currently operating at full capacity due to economic upturn in the region and expansion into new geographies.
The glass business in Kenya is highly competitive hence the need for production of highly quality glass containers at minimum cost to face international competition.
Purpose of the Role
The Electrical& Instruments Engineer is responsible for maintaining electrical, communication and instrumentation equipment in the company for continued operation of all company activities and for maintains LPG system for factory production.
Specifically, to ensure plant availability of 85%, LPG conveyance to production 100%, electrical energy availability to furnace 100% and providing working fire fighting and fire alarms equipment at all times.

Top 3 to 5 Accountabilities
- Maintain Electrical and fire risk assessment standards, LPG, and availability of power in the factory by closely liaising with KPLC.
- Timely and economical plan and execution of SAP computerised preventive maintenance system, corrective and breakdown diagnostic maintenance of the production equipment; gas fired decorating equipment and calibration of all factory instrumentations for the continued operations of the plant. Ensure timely completion of Capex projects and plant upgrade.
- Control and maintain R&M budget to within Kshs. 61.2 Million and plant machinery asset care of Kshs. 625 million.
- Train electrical and instrumentation personnel on matters regarding job and personnel improvements.
- Carryout risk assessment of non-routine hazards jobs and issue permit to work to employees and contractors working in the factory. Ensure quality workmanship from electrical contractors and quality electrical spares from suppliers and pallet repairs.
- Support all activities leading to implementation & sustenance of QMS, FSMS, EMS & OSHAS
- Bachelor Degree in Electrical & Communication or Electronic Engineering /HND in Electrical or Electronic Engineering.
- At least 5 years working experience as maintenance engineer in a busy manufacturing concern
- Thorough knowledge in electrical engineering, Power system net work and protection of high, medium and low voltage systems, electronic and pneumatic instrumentation, PLC functions, hardware and software and calibration of instruments.
- Ability to interpret electrical and instrumentation diagrams and software listing.
