Position title On-call Pharmacist Assistant
Position grade Daily rate equivalent to KES:3,719 per day worked
Duty station: Nairobi, Kenya
Duration: Up to 5 days a month ( Irregular and on-call basis from June 2014 to March 2015)
II. Organizational Context and ScopeSince 2008, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) has been addressing a range of critical migration health issues in Somalia under the migration health programme led by Migration Health Division (MHD). IOM has been implementing MHD programme through more than 20 projects in 15 project sites throughout Somalia, in order to improve the health conditions of migrants and mobile populations (MMPs) and their affected host communities. The primary migration health activities include: primary healthcare services provision, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) prevention, safe water provision through cost-effective and environmentally-friendly water flocculation technology, hygiene promotion, gender-based violence (GBV) prevention including female genital mutilation (FGM) and early marriage, solar lantern provision, psychosocial support to survivors of GBV, cross-border disease surveillance, fitness-to-travel training for partners for IDP return, technical and coordination capacity building in health sector, especially among the health authorities (Ministries of Health, National AIDS Commissions, Ministries of Water, etc.), and epidemiological studies on water quality, HIV, and GBV. In 2013 alone, over 12,000 internally displaced persons (IDPs) and their affected communities benefited from our life-saving primary healthcare services and over 80,000 vulnerable MMPs and their affected communities received clean and safe water every day. III. Responsibilities and Accountabilities Under the supervision of Chief of Mission, the technical guidance of Health Programme Coordinator and Health Programme Officer, in close coordination and consultation with MHD colleagues and other units in Nairobi and the fields, the incumbent will provide technical support to MHD on the management and quality control of the drugs, medical supplies, procured, shipped and used in Somalia:
The specific tasks and responsibilities include:
· Assist in the bidding process of the drug and medical supply procurement with technical knowledge
· Verify the standards of the drugs and medical supplies quoted and supplied and ensure that they are up to WHO standards
· Develop the stock data sheet to monitor the supplies consumption, storage of medical supplies in proper order of the medical drugs per zonal supplies for easy identification in Nairobi
· Perform any other relevant duties as assigned by Health Programme Coordinator IV. Competencies · Personal commitment, efficiency and results-driven.
· Sound organizational skills with strict attention to detail.
· Objective and analytical and excellent communication skills.
· Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a diverse team
· Flexible and able to adapt quickly to new, different environments.
· Capable of working under pressure.
· Fluency in English, Knowledge of Arabic or Somali is an advantage. ****V. PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT**** The incumbent will acquire information about IOM, basic knowledge in the area of migration health and project development process, and will gain hands-on working experience in an international multi-cultural environment, with an intergovernmental organization. VI. Education and Experience · Diploma in pharmacy or in a related field from a well-recognized as well as accredited institution
· Valid registration from the Kenyan Pharmacy and Poisons Board
· Minimum of 3 years of pharmaceutical and public health work experience in Kenya or Somalia
· Work experience in the United Nations and International non-governmental organization will be an advantage.
· Good knowledge of Microsoft Office and internet applications
