Main Purpose
Clinical responsibility for all patients in MSF-H IPD with any medical conditions within your scope of management.
To ensure that nursing care is properly delivered to the patients and to follow daily the progress of the patient.
AccountabilitiesClinical Tasks:
1. Consultations
§ Conduct thorough history taking and targeted physical exam techniques in the surgical department on patient admission.
§ Educate patients regarding their diagnoses, appropriate medication use and prevention strategies as relevant
§ Refer all critically ill or medically complex patients to the surgical/ OT expat supervisor.
§ Closely follows up patients’ registration, triage and flow within the surgical department.
§ Maintain strict confidentiality regarding patient complaints, diagnoses and treatment
§ Maintain a good standard of order and hygiene within the examination rooms/ dressing room with special attention paid to universal precautions at all times.
§ Liaises with the supervisors on day-to-day patient medical care
§ Encourage and conduct health education of the patients in the surgical department whenever necessary.
§ To follow strictly the MSF guidelines and procedures
§ To monitor the health status of the patients (including vital signs) as directed by expat or as needed by patient’s condition.
§ To inform the medical supervisor immediately of problems such as wound infection, diarrhoea, fever, vomiting, edema, respiratory distress, or any deterioration of the status of the patient.
§ To detect dehydration and follow the re-hydration state of the patients
§ To follow the medical prescriptions per guidelines or as prescribed by the surgeon
§ To deliver the right drugs at the right drug, right time, right day, right dose, right patient
§ To provide dressing changes and wound monitoring following proper hygiene guidelines
§ To monitor the status of IV cannulas—proper insertion, tape with date, changed every 48-72 hours, proper delivery of IV medications
§ To assist the MD or expat nurse with procedures
§ Be proactive in maintaining and procuring all patient care material for IPD
§ Conducts trainings to paramedics on training days.
§ Discuss with the expat MD or nurse all difficult cases that are beyond your management scope for assistance or any necessary supports.
§ Participate in the on call duty in rotation as organized by the medical responsible.
2. Supervisory tasks
§ Provide supportive supervision of the other less skilled medical staff working with you and ensure that MSF protocols are being followed in every procedure.
§ Gives advice on staff training needs in consultation with the medical IPD expat supervisor
§ To offer trainings and observe all the care delivered by the paramedics.
3. Reporting
§ Taking care that registers and patient follow up forms are correctly filled in
§ Manage the weekly Morbidity Tally sheet
§ Actively participates in tracking consumption activities in the surgical department
§ Early reporting of potential outbreak diseases such as (measles, meningitis, cholera)
§ Ensure that the right diagnoses for each patient are recorded on the patient’s card/chart.
§ Support in the monitoring, collating, analysis and reporting of medical/drugs consumptions if requested by your line manager.
§ To make a reports (for all patients), write relevant information on the individual cards, for the next team, at the end of the shift.
4. Other responsibilities:
- Take active part in health needs assessment in the target population if required.
- To perform any other tasks requested by your Expat supervisor
- To work on call with the expat nurses, MD, COs as per the weekly schedule
- To communicate with the surgeon on all complicated cases when on call.
- To participate to the health education of the patients.

Requirements (Your CV should convey the following essentials):
- Very good level of written and spoken English.
- Ability to work with translators
- Registered Nurse diploma from an institution recognized by the MoH.
- At least 2 years work experience in the medical field.
- Trauma experience / ER
- Experience in an surgical ward is asset
- Flexible attitude and able to take initiative, make good judgment and use common sense.
- Understanding and commitment to the aims and values of MSF.
