PLATFORM COORDINATOR KENYA CIVIL SOCIETY PLATFORM ON OIL AND GAS (KCSPOG) Based in Nairobi Contract: Fixed Term - 12 months (renewable) SALARY: From Kshs.247,713 gross per month plus a competitive benefit package including medical and pension.
The recently established Kenya Civil Society Platform for Oil and Gas (KCSPOG) is seeking to recruit a dynamic and qualified PLATFORM COORDINATOR to establish and manage the platforms operations and lead the delivery of its ambitious mission in Kenya. What we do The platform is an informal entity of a growing number of member organizations that works towards: A Kenya where there is equitable and sustainable development through the efficient and transparent management of oil and gas resources. To this end the KCSPOG will: engage in policy dialogue and advocacy towards influencing policies and legislation affecting oil and gas resource management through public mobilization and capacity building, as well as effective knowledge management and information sharing.
The Role The objectives of the Platform Coordinator include:
Within the principles of the EITI and the UN Minimum Standards, promote positive policy and practice within Kenya's oil and gas sector through Civil Society's contribution to open dialogue amongst key stakeholders. To create a leading national level forum in which members can share information, plan, and strategize together for the purposes of conducting joint advocacy and informed engagement with government agencies, private sector, and the media. To maximize the potential of individual organizations to sensitize and inform an ever-widening constituency of stakeholders on the challenges and opportunities presented by oil and gas. S/he will work with others to establish and ensure effective coordination with thematic working groups and county level platforms. Eg: Revenue Accountability, Conflict Prevention, Land, Local Content S/he will build strong networks of national, regional and global actors well placed to enhance the ability of the platform and its member to achieve their objectives and contribute to relevant national and internationally collective actions.
What We are Looking For In You You are: an exceptional leader, able to grasp a unique opportunity to help shape the outcomes of this critical juncture in Kenya's social and economic development. Amongst other key attributes, you will have: A commitment to social and economic justice for Kenya's people. Master's degree in relevant field. Eg: Environmental Sciences, Natural Resource Management, Economics, Law. Knowledge and experience in extractives development (preferably Oil and Gas) in the national, international and particularly African Context Proven success in multi-stakeholder engagement, notably with either Government or Private Sector. The position is open to Kenyan nationals only. The Platform Coordinator will initially be employed by Oxfam Kenya and seconded to the KCSPOG.
