The Conflict Prevention and Risk Analysis (CPRA) division of ISS is seeking to recruit a Researcher for the Great Lakes regionto be based at the ISS office in Nairobi. As an integral member of the CPRA team, the Researcher will be dealing with broader aspects of peace and security in the Great Lakes region. He/she will work closely with a network of African governments, regional organisations, the diplomatic community as well as research institutions in support of the advancement of African conflict prevention capacities.
Specifically:
- He/she will proactively initiate and undertake high quality primary and secondary research on conflict prevention and risk analysis on the Great Lakes Region.
- Convene seminars and experts roundtables and interact with key organizations and partners;
- Grant interviews to Media and organize targeted policy briefings to stakeholders;
- Work closely with relevant regional organisations within the Great Lakes,
- Present research findings at ISS and other relevant forums;
- Actively pursue the exchange and protection of information to ensure effective knowledge management according to ISS’s organizational objectives;
Requirements
- A degree (Masters preferable) in a relevant social science discipline such as International Relations, Political Science, Conflict and Peace Studies, Strategic and Security studies, Law or related qualification;
- A minimum of three years of relevant applied research experience;
- Good analytical research, editing and writing skills;
- Good publication record on African political dynamics and issues related to human security;
- Ability to undertake networking with academia and other research organisations;
- Fluency in English and French. Knowledge of another official language of the AU will be an advantage;
- Ability to work under pressure in a dynamic team environment;
- Capacity to travel extensively in the region in pursuit of research deliverables.
