Project Officer – Health (Int. Volunteer)
COUNTRY: Kenya
HOST ORGANISATION: Kenya Red Cross Society
Help relieve the burden on Kenya’s medical institutions through a project that provides teams of trained Red Cross volunteers into hospitals across the country. You will create project plans and frameworks, and identify ways to document and replicate successes.
This is a volunteer assignment under the Australian Volunteers for International Development (AVID) program, an Australian Government, AusAID initiative. Airfares, living allowances, accommodation, insurance and other support is provided through the program.
Kenya Red Cross Society is one of the most significant humanitarian agencies in the country. It has eight regional offices and over 70,000 registered volunteers.
The South Rift Regional Office is seeking an Australian Volunteer to support a major health project to assist Kenya’s under-resourced and over-stretched medical institutions. This will be done by introducing volunteer health teams, comprised primarily of local youth, into hospitals across the country. Volunteers will be equipped with the necessary skills to serve in times of crisis, while simultaneously reducing the day-to-day strain on medical institutions.
The project seeks to replicate the success of previous initiatives in this area. The Australian Volunteer will travel to other branches to document lessons learnt, and to initiate similar projects.
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
- Experience in project management and report writing
- Experience in monitoring and evaluation
- Qualifications in international development, social work or a related field
- Self awareness, cultural sensitivity, flexibility and adaptability, resilience
To be eligible, applicants must be 18 years and over, Australian citizens or permanent residents, or New Zealand citizens with Special Category Visas.
