Summary of Position
IREX seeks a Communications Specialist for an anticipated USAID-funded governance program in Somalia. The goal of the project is to support the development of more effective and accountable Somali government institutions. The Communications Specialist will conduct and coordinate project communication activities, and will ensure that project staff and partners understand and implement the project communications strategy and adhere to communications guidelines.
The position is contingent on funding.
Summary of Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and delivery of the program communications strategy
- Develop content supporting program outreach through digital, visual and text platforms
- Engage with partners to support their communications efforts as well as contributions to overall project outreach strategy
- Provide required communications inputs to project reporting
- Represent IREX publicly and support its organizational development
Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Communications or related field preferred
- Minimum 5 years of experience working on international donor-funded projects with responsibilities for communications, outreach campaigns, and media engagement
- Proficiency with social media, mobile platforms and multimedia content required
- Experience in Somalia and demonstrated understanding of the context required
- Outstanding verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and cross-cultural skills required
- Strong command of English language is required
- Demonstrated leadership, integrity, and versatility
