Brief Description:
Reporting to the Senior Manager – Business Systems Planning, the Principal Developer will be responsible for development and 3rd line support of Safaricom Management Information Systems (Data Ware-house and Business intelligence (BI)) and all reporting and analytics systems.
This will include, but not limited to, Churn management tools, Fraud management and Revenue assurance systems, Data Mining Systems, Campaign Management Systems and Dealer Incentive Management systems.
He or she will work with other departments within the company to identify requirements and develop solutions (database design, workflows, user/data interfaces) and also configure and/or customize BI and analytics systems to meet business requirements using various database and software tools
Detailed Description
Responsible for day-to-day oversight of the production Business Intelligence, reporting and analytics systems.
Provide leadership, guidance & motivation to the Business Intelligence Systems team members
Liaison between the enterprise and the OLAP/reporting tool vendor for all technical issues
Reporting status and issues to data warehouse champion on an as- needed basis
Single point of contact for warehouse-related issues and problems
Creating operational procedures and guidelines including problem escalation procedures
Configuration management of the production environment
Coordinating and scheduling product upgrades
Defining the service level agreement (SLA) for the warehouse
Communicating status, issues and problems in a real-time manner to business users of the warehouse
Designing and developing enterprise-wide repositories for all corporate data storage utilizing SQL-based database products including SQL Server, Oracle, and other database systems, or other specialized decision support or expert systems.
Defines requirements and tools to Interface all current and legacy data.
Defines the usage of queries and reporting tools to support corporate business units or external customers when combining and analyzing information contained within the corporate data warehouse
Manage internal customers ensuring effective communication with the Helpdesk and application support analysts.
Ensure all issues that cannot be resolved are escalated to immediate supervisor immediately.
Perform root cause analysis for recurring incidents.
Research and provide input on design approach, performance and base functionality improvements for various procedures and applications.
Generation of ideas to improve efficiency in software and application services offered to the business, and/or generate revenue for business
Participation and membership in various technical fora for the purpose of increasing the collective knowledge base of the team.Job Requirements
Degree in Computer Science or technical related field
Certification in Database systems and RDBMS systems.
Microsoft Certified Solution Developer / Oracle Certified Developer / Other related Software development concept course
5 years development experience with Microsoft development tools e.g. Java, VB, Fox Pro, Visual FoxPro
5 years development experience with low level programming C++, C.
5 years experience with RDMS preferably MS SQL Server, Oracle, Sybase, and Informix.
5 years experience in data warehousing, knowledge in Business Systems modeling and data retrieval
4GL for programming - Visual Basic/Oracle Application builder Unix user skills.
Experience in processes and procedures management.
