The Kenya Power & Lighting Company Limited is a limited liability company registered under the Company’s Act, Chapter 486 of the Laws of Kenya. It was incorporated in 1922 as the East African Power & Lighting Company Limited. KPLC was listed on the Nairobi Stock Exchange (NSE) in 1954. The Company changed to its present name in 1983. Kenya Power is a Public Company with the Government of Kenya (GoK), holding majority shares. Kenya Power’s core business is bulk purchase of electrical energy; transmit; distribute; supply electric energy and related customer service throughout Kenya. It is guided by the vision is to provide world class power that delights its customer in order to fulfill its mission of powering people for better livesThe promulgation of the Constitution on 27th August 2010, the expansion of operations within KPLC and other developments within the energy sector together with the changes in legislation affecting KPLC necessitate continuous review and improvement of its operations and business. In particular, the implementation of the Constitution, devolved governance structure and the Government of Kenya’s objective of increasing 5,000MW+ generation by 2016 pose challenges and opportunities for KPLC.
From 2004, the customer base has increased more than three-fold to the present approximately 2.6 million customers as at the end of June 2014. This expansion has come with human and technical challenges as the company strives to deliver world class power to its customers in line with Vision 2030. This growth has been driven by the human capacity under the supervision and responsibility of top cadre management staff.
To continue driving this growth, Kenya Power wishes to recruit for chief officer positions. These positions transverse several disciplines including engineering, finance and administration, property management, planning, procurement, stores and logistics management, statistics, information technology, audit, marketing, communications, security, insurance risk management and project management.
Roles & Responsibilities for the Chief Security Officer (Regions)
1.Overseeing implementation of security measures and regulations by employees and customers in the Region.2.Safeguarding security of Company assets against theft, pilferage, damage, misuse or sabotage.
3.Liaising with law enforcement agencies to ensure effective execution of security services
4.Sensitising internal and external customers on matters of general security, crime prevention and fraud control.
5.Supervising contracted and seconded security personnel to ensure value for money.
6.Undertaking security intelligence surveys and recommending necessary interventions.
7.Undertaking investigations of motor accidents involving Company vehicles and taking the necessary actions.
8.Evaluating changes to the regional security environment for impact and presenting findings to regional management.
9.Carrying out risk assessments and making recommendations to management.
10.Coordinating investigations on all acts of crime or any losses incurred against the Company and taking necessary action.
11.Implementing strategies on business continuity planning, privacy, loss prevention and fraud prevention.
12.Overseeing and coordinating security efforts across the region including information technology, human resources, communications and facilities management.
Minimum Requirements
•Bachelor’s Degree•Diploma in Criminology/Forensic Science or related field
•Military/Police/National Youth Service Training/Protective Security Industry Training
•9 years work experience
