Healthcare Insurance Underwriter
The Position
Reporting to the Healthcare Administrator-Bancassurance, the role holder will be responsible for medical underwriting in the Healthcare Insurance Department.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive application forms from branches, evaluate and review and place medical insurance business with underwriters
- Ensure timely submission of medical application documents to insurers and that policies, cover notes and medical access cards are correctly issued and dispatched on time
- Request for medical cards promptly and ensure they are delivered to HR/branches/members within agreed timelines
- Structure medical insurance programmes on receipt of data from branches and obtain competitive rates from the underwriting market and submit the most optimal solution to the client/ branch
- Offer technical guidance and medical underwriting support to Branch Insurance Teams
- Communicate all additions/ deletions to membership of schemes expeditiously to eliminate any lapses in cover
- Ensure that renewal terms are communicated and/or discussed with the clients within the set timelines and that renewal instructions are issued promptly
- Work closely with the insurer and client to arrange member awareness sessions to sensitize insured members of the scope and benefits under their medical policies
- Effectively manage membership data and schemes reports
- Ensure premium is collected by the sales person on all business underwritten and placed with underwriters prior to activation of medical cards and issue activation/ deactivation instructions as per the laid down procedures
Position’s Requirement
- University degree preferably specializing in Insurance, Healthcare or business course
- AIIK Diploma or good progress towards attainment of Professional Qualification ACII will be an added advantage
- At least 2 years’ hands on experience gained in a busy Medical insurance underwriting or operations department with good understanding of medical underwriting processes
- Reliable team player with keen attention to detail and high accuracy capabilities
- Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills
- Good planning and organization skills with the ability to work independently and deliver effectively under strict deadlines
- Good communication skills and excellent Customer service skills
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft office software
- Ability to develop working relationships with diverse partners
- Able to maintain strict confidentiality of all medical information and general medical data
- Passion for excellent results
