The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation is a global leader in the fight against pediatric HIV and AIDS, working in 15 countries and at over 7,000 sites around the world to prevent the transmission of HIV to children, and to help those already infected. Today, because of the highly successful work of the Foundation and its partners, pediatric AIDS has been virtually eliminated in the United States. With a growing global staff of over 1,000—nine of 10 who work in the field—the Foundation’s global mission is to eliminate pediatric HIV and AIDS by implementing HIV prevention, care, and treatment programs; further advance innovative research; and to execute strategic and targeted global advocacy activities to bring dramatic change to the lives of millions of women, children, and families worldwide.
EGPAF Kenya is looking to recruit Pediatric Care and Treatment Advisorto be based in Homa Bay
Job Summary
The Pediatric Care and Treatment Technical Advisor will be responsible for overall implementation and scale up of pediatric and adolescent HIV care and Treatment services including: County and sub-County level coordination of ACT Initiative activities; capacity building and technical support to program staff across EGPAF supported sites implementing ACT Initiative activities; accountability for program key results areas, proactive stakeholder engagement (County Health Management Team, County Government, Implementing Partners and other EGPAF projects), program risk analysis/mitigation and program reporting.
Reporting to the Program Manager, the Pediatric Care and Treatment Technical Advisor will provide technical support in the planning and implementation of eMTCT, pediatrics and adolescent programs within EGPAF -supported facilities in Homabay Countyin collaboration with county health management teams.
He/she will supervise implementation of PMTCT within EGPAF supported sites. In addition he/she will be responsible for the planning, coordination and providing overall direction for the Pediatric HIV Care and Treatment programming as well as providing strong leadership to a team of program officers working with the facilities.
Key Responsibilities
  • To oversee the planning, initiation and implementation of HIV pediatric and adolescent HIV Care and Treatment services at EGPAF-supported facilities.
  • To lead in the adaptation of national standard package for Pediatric and adolescent HIV care and treatment services and ensure its implementation in EGPAF supported facilities
  • To lead supervision and mentorship on implementation of standard package for pediatric and adolescent HIV Care and Treatment programs
  • Working closely with the CASCO, be part of the County mentorship team that provides leadership and direction for implementation of pediatric and adolescent HIV services at county and sub-county level while building technical capacity of Program Officers for ongoing and sustained technical support to facilities in Homa Bay County
  • Working with Community Liaison Officers, help to identify Adolescent and Pediatric HIV champions that will lead community and county engagement and buy in to scale up services for children and adolescents
  • To oversee the planning and implementation of eMTCT and MNCH services in EGPAF-supported facilities.
  • To participate in the eMTCT/Pediatric/Adolescent technical working groups in the Ministry of Health at County and sub-County level in Homa Bay County.
  • Working with M&E officers, help track progress, identify areas for improvement and implement interventions in a timely manner
  • Any other relevant duties that may be assigned from time to time
Requirements
  • Bachelor of medicine or its equivalent
  • MMed Pediatrics or Pediatric experience will be an added advantage
  • Five years’ experience in implementation of eMTCT and Pediatric HIV Care and Treatment programs
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with others in a multi-cultural team environment
  • Strong skills in diplomacy and relationship building with a variety of partners and stakeholders including the other implementing partners, donor/s, MOH at County and sub-County levels
  • Excellent communication and writing skills
  • Excellent organizational skills, ability to work independently, assess priorities, and manage a variety of activities with attention to detail
  • Strong project management skills
