The Centre for Maternal and Newborn Health at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) is an active academic unit seeking to improve maternal and newborn health globally.
LSTM Kenya operates as a subsidiary company based in Nairobi but with a national remit.
Operational since January 2013, it coordinates delivery of research programmes in close collaboration with the Ministry of Health at various levels and other stakeholders within Kenya.
One of our key programmes is the Making it Happen Programme, supported by UK Aid.
The aim of the programme is to reduce maternal and newborn mortality and morbidity by increasing availability and improving the quality of Skilled Birth Attendance (SBA) and Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care (EmONC).
The key interventions are EmONC trainings, Making It Happen with Data workshops, Quality Improvement workshops and Monitoring & Evaluation.
We are now seeking to appoint to the following positions:
1. Senior Finance Officer / Accountant

Based in Nairobi, but with travel within Kenya
LSTM Kenya are seeking to appoint a qualified Senior Finance Officer / Accountant, who will support the Senior Technical Officer to ensure robust management systems and Standard Operating Procedures are in place and implemented across LSTM’s Kenya office, within finance, programme and office management.
A minimum of 5 years professional and progressively responsible experience in finance, administration, budget, business administration or related area, in a multinational or nongovernmental organisation will be essential.
Working within a complex international environment, you will be responsible for the preparation of LSTM Kenya’s monthly management accounts and year-end financial statements, working as the main point of contact for external auditors.
You will possess a University degree in a business related degree preferably Accounting or Business Administration.
You will be a registered member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya and full professional accounting qualification: CPA(K), ACCA, ACA will be essential.
Experience of effective staff management is an essential requirement of the role, as you have direct supervision of the LSTM Kenya finance and administration team.
Exceptional work prioritisation and organisational skills are essential as is a working knowledge of Quickbooks accounting software and Microsoft Applications.
You will require excellent interpersonal and communications skills to develop effective working relationships both internally and externally as you will be communicating and advising a variety of different people on finance related issues.
You will be required to provide guidance and training to the LSTM Kenya programme staff on budgetary and financial policies and procedures.

2. Finance Officer

Full Time, Fixed Term until 31st December 2018
Based in Nairobi, but with travel within Kenya
This role will work under the supervision of the Senior Finance Officer to provide professional support to the day to day finance and accounting function for LSTM Kenya Office.
It is essential that you have a minimum of 3 years proven professional and progressively responsible experience in finance, administration, budget and business administration, within a complex multi-national or non-governmental organisation.
You will possess a University degree in a business related degree preferably Accounting or Business Administration.
Proven experience of operating computerised accounting systems and internal control systems and procedure will be essential.
A professional accounting qualification: CPA (K), ACCA, ACA would be an advantage for this role.
It is essential that you have excellent interpersonal and communication skills to develop internal and external working relationships as you will be communicating and with a variety of different people on finance related issues.
The role will require you to work to tight deadlines so excellent time management and organisational skills are essential as is a working knowledge of Quickbooks accounting software and Microsoft Applications.
