Health Informatics Focal Person
The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation is a global leader in the fight against pediatric HIV and AIDS, working in 15 countries and at over 5,500 sites around the world to prevent the transmission of HIV to children, and to help those already infected. Today, because of the highly successful work of the Foundation and its partners, pediatric AIDS has been virtually eliminated in the United States. With a growing global staff of over 1,000—nine of 10 who work in the field—the Foundation’s global mission is to eliminate pediatric HIV and AIDS by implementing HIV prevention, care, and treatment programs; further advance innovative research; and to execute strategic and targeted global advocacy activities to bring dramatic change to the lives of millions of women, children, and families worldwide.
EGPAF Kenya is looking to recruit Health Informatics Focal Person to be based in Nairobi.
Key Responsibilities
1.eHealth/mHealth Promotion and Implementation to enhance quality of care and data quality
- Promote and Support Implementation of innovative e-Health and mHealth Initiatives including DHIS, EMR, SMS Reminders, NASCOP’s EID and Viral load databases, ADT/FDT systems and other relevant databases
- Interact with internal and external stakeholders to analyze and document system requirements
- Assist in internal and partner implementation of Health Information System (HIS) projects
2.Health Information Systems Support
- Investigate, escalate and resolve HIS applications and data management functionality related issues and provide first level support , troubleshooting and System Testing
- Assist in Coordinating the applications rollout, user training and supporting, and providing excellent post-rollout client support via phone, internet, or in-person.
- Be a key driver of the development and continuous improvement of the solutions primarily through extremely keen and active monitoring and evaluation of user experience, and providing thorough and prompt feedback of the same to the team, throughout and at all times.
- Support tools that enhance management and storage of data to ensure integrity, quality and availability
3.Health informatics and Information Systems strengthening
- Assist in the Co-ordination and Support of foundation and partner health information Systems strengthening strategies using cut-edge innovative solutions e.g in e-health (EMR,HMIS) and m-health
- Assist in Co-ordination of the provision of resources and activities to enhance Health Systems Strengthening internally and for Partners
4.Training and Capacity Building
- Training & Sensitization of key stakeholders in the projects involved in to build capacity and ensure sustainability
- Support internal and partner information system training
- Support SI&E and IT unit in ensuring that program staff and partners have enough capability for operating existing and required information systems
5.Participate in ensuring High level Data quality and data integrity activities
Required Qualifications
· Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Information Technology
· Demonstrated ability to collaborate and communicate in positive working relationships with other team members and partners
· Self-Motivated with an ability to meet tight deadlines with minimum supervision
· Aptitude to learn clinical processes ,clinical terminology and M&E Concepts
· Ability to work as part of software team
· Must be able to travel locally as required by the program area.
· Experience working in Health domain will be an added advantage
Essential Professional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
· Programming skills in PHP , Java, CSS, XML, .Net (C#, ASP)
· Working knowledge and experience with JavaScript, spring, Hibernate and SQL
· Demonstrated experience in Electronic Medical Records' (Open MRS/Kenya EMR/IQ Care) development and implementation
· Experience in SQL database design and administration
· Knowledge of transactional databases (MySQL, SQL Server, SQLite) and database programming including stored procedures, triggers and functions required
· Experience with server setup and maintenance (including networking and computer hardware maintenance)
· Knowledge and experience applying monitoring and evaluation tools in program management and using information gathered to improve program performance;
· Excellent oral and communication skills (English) and strong presentation skills are required.
· Strong interpersonal skills
· Ability to learn and innovate as needs of program evolve.
· Highly motivated, flexible, adaptable and service-oriented, with strong collaborative skills for team work and consensus building among staff and other partners.
· System requirements’ collection, Technical and user documentation and Capacity building skills
· Familiarity with DHIS and other MOH operated databases
· Familiarity with the Mhealth Systems and Android platform will be an added advantage.
