ChildFund International National Diractor

The National Director (ND) is the official representative and leader of ChildFund International in Kenya. S/he is responsible for shaping the vision and strategic leadership for the Kenya national office. The ND is also responsible for providing high level oversight over all areas of program implementation & operations; fundraising and advocacy; cultivate strategic partnerships; and operational leadership that support the mission and strategic direction for Kenya. The National Director acts as a resource to other national offices, the regional team and the agency as a whole in appropriate areas of expertise.
Duties/ Responsibilities for the ND's post Includes but not limited to the following:
Accountable for strategic plan development, implementation and outcomes, resource planning and mobilization, budget development, human resources, programs and overall management of the country’s operations.
Ensure the organization is recognized by stakeholders (relevant government authorities, donors, other NGOs, media etc) as a strong child development organization and credible reference point on issues related to development, and specifically to be seen as a leader in children’s issues.
Responsible for providing leadership for organization’s program through strategic planning, strategic alliances, learning, research and documentation.
Ensure optimal financial, human and physical resource allocation and management and quality standards, for successful implementation of the country’s and organization’s strategic plan and mission and to monitor and report on their progress.
Provide leadership in acquisition of resources and their proper use in pursuit of quality programs for child development.
Develop fundraising opportunities and cultivate new donor relationships.
Cultivates and maintains working relationships with local and international partners, government, the board, and communities.
Expand and develop the national office’s programs through the development of initiatives that further the organization’s impact on well-being of children and their communities.
Responsible for implementation of measures to ensure compliance to internal and donor policies and regulations and to protect assets and resources.
As a senior staff, contributes to regional and organizational wide initiatives to support achievement of core intent and outcomes and evolution of ChildFund
Required Skills
Minimum university degree in community development/social science or relevant discipline; master’s degree highly desirable;
Proven track record of strong management skills with complex programs and a large number of staff.
Outstanding written and oral communication skills in English.
Ability to grow/develop a development agency by attracting local and international resources and building alliances.
Demonstrated high-level interpersonal and cross-cultural skills including the ability to build collaborative relationships internally and externally with sensitivity to cultural, ethnic, social and political issues.
Ability to pragmatically solve problems, plan a course of action using analytical, conceptual, strategic and forward thinking abilities to achieve an effective resolution.
Demonstrated technical expertise in such areas as: project, budget and resource management.
Strong leadership skills in such areas as: fostering teamwork; developing and motivating others; managing change; conflict resolution; initiative and flexibility.
Demonstrated progressive relationship building skills with bilateral & multilateral donors, governments, local partners, the board, and communities;
Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to manage a large, complex, ethnically mixed and talented team through a participatory and enabling management style;
Strong knowledge base of the INGO sector, visioning, strategic planning, and implementation ability
Effective under pressure, results oriented and proactive with the ability to multi-task, inspire confidence & trust, and decisive;
Ability to demonstrate support for innovation and organizational changes needed to improve the organization’s effectiveness; helping others to successfully manage organizational change.
Ability to recognize, react and adjust to rapidly changing conditions and to lead the resources in appropriate direction with cohesiveness and a sense of urgency
Experience Required
10 years experience managing development programs, of which at least 5 years at senior level management (prior experience as National Director highly desirable);
Experience in emergency programs, and/or community development
Experience in the management of large institutional grants preferred
Experienced in child focused programming
